Our Season Opens With A BANG

We've been seeing several packs of wolves all summer and the howling has waken us up lots.
Now the hide and hair are finally starting to be totally prime.
SIGNS OF NOT PRIME.... hide itself is a blue colour and it doesn't tan properly.
summer hair has no under wool and is sparse and short.
Just at dusk, the Wolf came out onto the ice and the 200m. shot was taken with a  Bruno .223 with 40 grain hollow point.  (A hugh, heavy 10 lb. Mauser action 24" barrel with set trigger made in Chec.... extremely accurate. )
Retrieving the Wolf became the next action.
The Wolf was 175 ft off shore on 1" of ice where it is 20 feet deep.
Bryan towed the 14' Aluminum boat to the closest point.  Before Bryan took off Vikki said "The quad can pull you back... where is the rope?"
Bryan stopped... considered... and off he went to get 3 75' lengths of rope.
Once the boat was on the thin ice Bryan stood in the back and pushed it out to the Wolf with a pitch fork.  He had a hell of a time.  The fork was piercing the ice and water was popping up.  Weather was mild 0 C and starting to freeze again as night fell.
Bryan got to 20 ' from the wolf and couldn't push any more... so much slush frozen to the bottom of the boat.  He put one foot over the transom onto the thin ice and pushed and little by little he got closer to the Wolf.
Vikki was busy connecting the last length and trying to see the quad controls in the dark.
Bryan yelled "GO!  GO!"
Off the quad went and Bryan just about fell out of the back of the boat.
There was lots of yelling.  Vikki would only go 20 ' and then stop and look back to see if Bryan was still in the boat.  Each time she pulled the rope got thinner and thinner and then the boat shot ahead.  Bryan started to yell... " GO GO.... DON"T STOP"
But Vikki was not going to drag that boat all the way back to the shore only to find it empty.
THEY STILL DISAGREE ABOUT THIS , but we got the Wolf.

  1. Excellent, this sounds so much like the narrative of a typical operation performed by Lisa and myself. By the way ... good shot!
